Mandy Comes Packaged With the Fully Uncut Cheddar Goblin Commercial

Today’s the day, Cheddar Goblin Fan Club. Just in time for Halloween, Panos Cosmatos’ Mandy is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, bringing the critically acclaimed Nicolas Cage horror film home and where it belongs: on your Blu-ray shelf, ready to be re-watched at your leisure.

Undoubtedly one of this year’s standout horror flicks, Mandy is the truly unforgettable Nicolas Cage genre film we’ve been building towards in recent years, playing out like the cosmic, crazier cousin of Drive Angry. A film that confidently exists in a world entirely of its own creation, Mandy is crazy cool looking at almost all times and bloody as can be. Simply put, it’s a gem.

More elegantly stated, Scott Weinberg wrote in his Mandy review here on BD that it’s a “grimly alluring fever dream,” one that “might just be your new favorite movie of the year.”

Weinberg raved earlier this year, “If you want a bizarre and blistering revenge story set in a uniquely ominous world, Mandy has a lot to offer. If your tastes lean towards genre flicks like Hellraiser, The Wicker Man, and Race with the Devil, there’s very little chance you won’t dig this movie in a big way. And if you’re hoping for a big fat amalgamation of action, horror, pitch black comedy, bittersweet romance, and that wonderfully sweet smell of sheer unpredictability, hell, Mandy might just be your new favorite movie of the year.”

Not that it even needs special features in order for you to buy it, but Mandy‘s Blu-ray release has a handful, including a 22-minute documentary that’s packed with never-before-seen concept art and behind the scenes photos/videos. The mini doc digs into aspects like the script, the casting (Nicolas Cage was originally going to play Jeremiah Sand, not Red Miller!) and the filming locations, featuring insights from Panos Cosmatos as well as producer Elijah Wood.

Also included on the disc, you’ll find 14 minutes of deleted/extended scenes, most notably the complete, “uncut” Cheddar Goblin commercial! This version of the beloved commercial is just a tad bit longer than the one seen in the film itself, and if you’re asking me, more Cheddar Goblin is always a good thing. An extended version of Bill Duke’s monologue is also part of the bonus features package, along with a completely deleted scene wherein Nic Cage laughs maniacally while pumping gas until the total reaches 6.66 gallons. Yes, it’s as glorious as it sounds.

One last thing that’s worth noting is that the Blu-ray art is reversible, with the film’s original poster art featured on the other side of the new home video art. A nice little bonus there.

Mandy Producer Elijah Wood: Nicolas Cage Back In Oscar-Level Form With Revenge Film’s Surprise Success

On screen, the revenge film Mandy is a ferocious fever-dream, but off screen it has been a game-changing success story for SpectreVision, the production company founded by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller. The film has won over critics and a growing fan following since its January premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and Wood now tells Deadline his company is sizing up an Oscar campaign for star Nicolas Cage.

“This is absolutely the most successful film and best-reviewed film we’ve made since we started this company eight years ago to focus on genre and horror films and to push the boundaries of what one considers those things to be,” said Wood, best known as the actor who portrayed the intrepid hobbit Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings films.

The film, directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow), is a surreal, blood-soaked tale set in in Shadow Mountains of the Mojave Desert where it pits Cage’s character, a logger named Red Miller, against the Children of the New Dawn, a deviant hippie cult whose victims include Miller’s girlfriend (portrayed by Andrea Riseborough).

Transference is now available in VR and Non-VR

Transference is described as a first-person exploration game and is now available in both VR and non-VR flavors. Depending on your platform of choice, you can now try to escape a strange scientific experiment in VR on the PSVR, Oculus Rift, or HTC Vive systems. For non-VR gamers, Transference will also work on a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Windows PC.

Elijah Wood first showed off Transference at the Ubisoft presser at E3 earlier this summer and certainly caused a stir with the unique premise. Not many details were available at the time, and Transference still seems to be a game best experienced, not read about.

“Whether playing in VR or non-VR, players will find themselves in an escape room like situation inside the experiment of a troubled scientist. They’ll shift between the three perspectives of family members and attempt to find out the disturbing truth,” said Transference producer Kévin Racapé. “Transference is a visceral, engaging experience, and we can’t wait for players to enjoy unraveling the mystery in this mind-bending psychological thriller.”

For gamers that are unsure if the experience is for them, or wondering if it’s perhaps too scary, there is a demo available. The free downloadable demo, The Walter Test Case, is available on PlayPlayStationand PlayStation 4 systems in both VR and non-VR and serves as a prequel to the full game.

Transference is rated M for Mature and is now available for $33.49 in both VR and non-VR on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive, as well as on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Transference Gameplay Video Features a Disturbing Journey Through a Corrupted Mind

“Transference,” the trippy psychological thriller from Ubisoft and SpectreVision, was on hand during Gamescom 2018. In a new gameplay walkthrough trailer, it was revealed to be an even spookier affair than players had imagined.

The video finds players heading down to a large red Harmony Labs door with a “keep out” sticker plastered on the front before abruptly turning around and heading to another creepy location. A voice whispers “this was our house,” and there’s a figure seen running away at the end of a dimly-lit corridor, clearly decorated for a child’s birthday party. Eerie whispers of a child asking “have you seen my dog?” and other bizarre goings-on litter the segment, and it’s truly disconcerting.

The game is described as a journey into a “corrupted mind,” which has chilling implications. The atmosphere is similar to “P.T.,” prototype of Hideo Kojima-helmed “Silent Hills” with real-life horror sprinkled throughout. There’s a selection of strange prisms that dot the landscape as well, with some frankly disturbing sound effects and situations to explore.

“Something’s gone wrong,” a voice is overheard saying near the end of the clip, after a frenzied young boy calls for his father, asking him to “tell him what to do.”

“Dad, I’m scared, there’s something here with me!” cries young Ben as his father prompts him to go to the garage. The video doesn’t show what’s chasing the child, but it will likely be something terrifying.

“Transference” is headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Sept. 18. It has doffed its previous VR requirement, and there is now a demo available for players to try out via the European PlayStation Store. The project, partially the brainchild of actor Elijah Wood, certainly looks like it has the potential to chill players.
